Investigation into fatal shooting of businessman
A 43-year-old businessman was killed by gunfire outside his front door in Dingolfing on Monday afternoon. According to WELT, an unknown person rang the doorbell at the residential property at around 12:30 p.m. and opened fire as the man answered the door. According to the autopsy findings, the victim was fatally struck by at least one projectile.
The Landshut criminal police have established a special task force with approximately 30 investigators. The shooter fled in a dark vehicle; police report that there are no concrete leads on his identity or the getaway vehicle. Police units and a helicopter searched the area. The local search was suspended Monday afternoon for the time being.
A neighbour described the events following the shots to the Bild newspaper. She heard the victim's wife screaming and ran to the house. The man lay outside the door. While his wife called the emergency services, the neighbour attempted to calm them both: "Hold on, hold on." The man died at the scene.
The motive and exact sequence of events are unclear. According to media reports, the victim ran a security company. The Bild newspaper also mentioned a recently filed insolvency of the company and criminal investigations against the man. The police headquarters declined to comment on this. According to police, no connection to the attack has been established.
On Tuesday afternoon, a second incident occurred at the scene of the crime. Two young men drove up to the house and made statements to a relative of the victim in a way that was understood as a threat. The relatives alerted police again. Because a connection could not initially be ruled out, a major manhunt was launched involving several patrols and a helicopter. After approximately one hour, the wanted vehicle was found. An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were taken into provisional custody. They stated that their behaviour was intended to be "funny".
