In the eastern Thuringia city of Gera, a 44-year-old man has become the victim of a sophisticated fraud scheme. The financial damage amounts to approximately €50,000. The perpetrators had control over his mobile device over an extended period of time.

According to information released by local investigators, the unknown perpetrators gained access to the victim's smartphone via a remote-access app. Over the course of several months, they took out various loans in his name. They subsequently transferred the disbursed capital to a digital crypto wallet.

The fraudsters had apparently promised the victim substantial profits. However, these failed to materialise entirely. The 44-year-old was ultimately left with the full loss.

The prosecution authorities have launched an investigation. They once again appealed to the public never to grant unknown persons access to electronic devices.
