Following a traffic accident in the early morning hours, a driver in Paderborn fled the scene. The district police authority is now seeking witnesses who observed the incident.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning at around 2.50 a.m. on Borchener Straße. A 49-year-old was driving his Mercedes towards the city centre when a car suddenly came towards him in the opposite lane. The other vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic for reasons still unclear and struck the Mercedes on the side.
Instead of stopping, the unknown driver simply continued in the direction of motorway A33. The Mercedes driver remained uninjured, but his vehicle sustained damage estimated at approximately €5,000 and remained roadworthy afterwards.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the accident or can provide relevant information about the fleeing driver to contact Paderborn police on 05251 306-0.
