A police patrol in the German municipality of Oberkramer stopped a vehicle on Saturday, 6 June, which at first glance appeared to be something amiss. At the wheel sat a boy who was obviously not old enough to operate a motor vehicle. In the passenger seat sat his father in an intoxicated state. The report was published by German newspaper Bild.

Trip to the petrol station

Officers spotted the vehicle during a routine traffic check. When they stopped the car, they established that an eleven-year-old child was driving. The drunken father in the passenger seat told police that he had let the boy drive to take him to the petrol station. The reason was simple – the father wanted to buy himself more beer.

Witnesses alerted police

Several passers-by had alerted police to the suspicious vehicle after noticing the child at the wheel. After stopping the vehicle, the father refused to take a breathalyser test. Police subsequently initiated criminal proceedings against him.
