Dangerous foreign objects found in Halloween sweets in Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate
Police discover magnets and metal needles in children's Halloween haul. Authorities assume deliberate tampering and are investigating on suspicion of attempted dangerous assault.

Magnets and needles discovered in sweets
According to n-tv, dangerous foreign objects were found in sweets in Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate on Halloween night, which children had collected from front doors. In Wintzingerode in the Eichsfeld region, metal needles were noticed when unpacking, as the Nordhausen state police inspection reported. In Appenheim in Rhineland-Palatinate, a nine-year-old found two magnets, each approximately two millimetres in diameter, in a chewing sweet following a check.
Police believe the sweets were deliberately tampered with to cause injury. Investigations were launched on suspicion of attempted dangerous assault. Which front doors the tampered sweets were distributed from remains unclear. To date, no injuries have been reported.
The nine-year-old's mother became aware of possible tampering through a tip on Instagram and asked her son to check his haul. Police called on parents to carefully inspect collected sweets before consumption. Similar finds occurred in previous years, including razor blades in Kiel.
