Major police operation in Gauting: man pursues children with toy gun
A large-scale police operation took place in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Gauting on Saturday evening. It was triggered by a call from a 12-year-old child who, together with a friend, had rung a doorbell. A resident responded with extreme aggression.
The 55-year-old man came out of the house with a gun in his hand and threatened the two boys. The children fled, but the intoxicated man pursued them on his bicycle. He drove the boys all the way to a discount supermarket on Starnberger Straße.
Based on their account, officers assessed the situation as acutely dangerous. Around 15 patrol cars were sent to the scene. Plainclothes investigators located the suspect in the shop shortly afterwards.
During a body search, police found no genuine firearm. Instead, they discovered a toy gun and a penknife. A breath test revealed a blood alcohol level above 1.5.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood sample. Officers then brought him to the local police station. As he was already known to investigators from previous incidents, he was released on bail after consultation with the prosecution authority.
Gauting in Starnberg district has around 20,000 residents.
