The federal police carried out a check on a motorist in Sohland an der Spree and discovered roughly 800 kilograms of coffee powder on his trailer, as reported by mdr.de. The goods came from the Czech Republic and had not been declared to customs.
For private use, only ten kilograms are permitted. The driver stated that he had purchased the coffee for the catering trade in a supermarket. Customs is now investigating for tax evasion – Germany applies a separate coffee tax.
