A six-year-old child has died from severe head injuries in Osternienburger Land. The prosecutor's office in Dessau-Roßlau is treating the case as a violent crime and is investigating the mother's partner.
On Sunday morning, someone reported an emergency to the rescue control centre. A rescue helicopter transported the child to a hospital. There, specialists found injuries to the skull that, in their view, could not be explained by an accident. The hospital subsequently notified the investigating authorities.
Police officers arrested the 27-year-old suspect that same evening. Officials from the State Criminal Investigation Office searched his flat. The following day, the prosecution applied for remand in custody. A judge at the district court in Köthen ordered the detention. The man was transferred to prison.
The child succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. The exact circumstances of the case are the subject of ongoing investigations. Further details will not be disclosed for the time being.
