Würzburg trial: woman accused of blackmailing priest with naked photos and fabricated illness

A retired priest from Bavaria found his contact with a prostitute to be financially catastrophic. According to BILD, he lost €255,000 over several years before the matter landed before the Würzburg regional court.

According to the charge, the two met in 2016 at a Würzburg sauna club. From 2022 onwards, the clergyman became a paying customer. During this time, the defendant told him of an alleged leukaemia diagnosis and repeatedly collected money for fictitious cancer treatments.

By 2025, the priest is said to have transferred at least €255,000 – financed through three dissolved life insurance policies. When the money ran out and he wanted to break off contact, the woman allegedly continued to pressure him. According to his account, she threatened to publish secretly recorded naked photographs and inform the diocese of the affair. The priest then paid hush money of his own accord.

In court, he described his motives: he had become attached to the woman out of affection, compassion and a desire for closeness – "with compassion predominating".

The 30-year-old, who has been in custody since October 2025, is said to have defrauded two other men in addition to the priest, whom she also allegedly met at the sauna club. According to the charge, the total damage to all three victims amounts to nearly €350,000. At the start of proceedings, the defendant admitted the allegations through her lawyer.

The prosecutor's office is seeking a custodial sentence of between two and a half and three and a half years. A total of three trial dates have been scheduled until 25 June. In parallel, the prosecutor's office is investigating the priest himself on suspicion of rape.
