In September 2025, a man over eighty years old from the Baden-Württemberg state capital registered on a website that posed as an internet bank for cryptocurrencies. This decision would prove costly for him.

Shortly after registering, unknown individuals made contact with the retiree by telephone. They posed as employees of the alleged financial platform and lured the man with supposedly high returns. In this way, they persuaded the victim to transfer money in several instalments to accounts under their control.

The total damage eventually amounted to approximately 230,000 euros. Only when the senior noticed the fraud did he contact the police and file a criminal complaint.

The investigative authorities are now searching for those responsible. The case once again demonstrates how older people are deliberately defrauded of their savings through bogus investment offers on the internet.
