As zeit.de reports, a pensioner in Eisenhüttenstadt in Oder-Spree district has been defrauded of a low five-figure amount through a telephone scam. The woman received a call on Tuesday in which she was told her daughter was suffering from terminal cancer.

The caller claimed that only an expensive medication could help the daughter and demanded 100,000 euros. Since the pensioner could not raise the full sum, she handed over a low five-figure amount to the fraudster.

According to police, the perpetrator was driving a vehicle with Polish number plates and is currently at large. Police are explicitly warning against this fraud scheme.
