False call with cancer lie: elderly woman hands over five-figure sum

A pensioner in Eisenhüttenstadt (Oder-Spree district) was defrauded of a low five-figure sum on Tuesday, according to stern.de. Over the telephone, the woman was told her daughter was suffering from terminal cancer.

The caller demanded 100,000 euros for an allegedly life-saving medication. As the pensioner could not raise the full sum, she handed over part of the money.

According to police, the fraudster drove a vehicle with Polish number plates and remains at large. The authorities are explicitly warning against this scam method.
