Elderly woman in Munich defrauded of €15,000 through shock call

A woman over 90 years old from Munich became the victim of fraud through a so-called shock call on Monday afternoon. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, at around 3 p.m. an unknown man called the elderly woman and claimed that her daughter had caused a fatal traffic accident in Greece.

The caller demanded that the woman pay a deposit to secure her daughter's release. Shortly afterwards, the elderly woman handed over cash totalling approximately €15,000 to a previously unknown male collector.

Only after the collector disappeared did the woman realise the fraud and contacted the police. The financial crimes investigation unit with gang-related focus has taken over the investigation.
