Dead infant found in flat in Müllrose – cause of death remains unclear
In Müllrose in Oder-Spree district, police discovered a lifeless male infant on Monday late afternoon. According to the prosecutor's office, witnesses found the child dead in the building corridor and alerted the authorities.
According to BILD, the presumed parents – a 34-year-old and a 39-year-old – were initially arrested. Both have since been released.
The Frankfurt (Oder) prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday that a forensic examination had revealed no evidence of violence or other external factors as the cause of death. Spokesperson Ricarda Böhme told BILD: "The forensic examination of the body revealed no evidence of violence or other external factors that would have caused the infant's death."
When and how exactly the child died remains unclear. According to initial findings, it is most likely that the child was born in February in the mother's flat.
Investigations are continuing. Böhme emphasised: "The investigations into clarifying the circumstances of death will continue regardless of the release of the suspects."
