18-year-old Iranian's sentence: rape at Aalborg Harbour, two and a half years and permanent deportation

An 18-year-old Iranian man has been found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman on a bench at the harbour in Aalborg on New Year's night, according to nordjyske.dk. The sentence is two and a half years imprisonment as well as deportation from Denmark with a permanent entry ban.

It is prosecutor Bjørn Fogh who confirms the judgement.

The now-convicted man has been held in custody since a constitutional court hearing on 12 January. He has appealed the sentence but remains behind bars during the appeal proceedings.

Throughout the case, the 18-year-old maintained his innocence. However, the court in Aalborg chose to place decisive weight on the victim woman's testimony.

– His explanation was generally very unreliable and contradicted the woman's testimony. He also changed his explanation during the proceedings. The woman's testimony has been consistent from start to finish and is supported by other information. When the defendant is unreliable and is contradicted by various technical examinations, the decision was made to convict him, says Bjørn Fogh.

The woman testified during the case that she cried for help, wept and said no, but that the 18-year-old nevertheless carried out the rape.

The woman is a Norwegian citizen but was celebrating New Year in Aalborg. The convicted man was resident in Hedensted Municipality at the time of the crime. The two did not know each other beforehand.
