Knife Attack on Dortheavej: Frederiksberg District Court Halves Sentence after Gang Provision is Rejected
Raheem Mohammad Nadeem Munir had his sentence halved from six to three years on Monday, as the court can no longer apply the gang provision in the case.

Sentence Halved after Gang Provision Dropped in Knife Attack Case
Frederiksberg District Court halved the sentence on Monday for a 22-year-old man convicted of a knife attack on Christmas Eve 2022 in Copenhagen's North-West district. This is reported by B.T.
Raheem Mohammad Nadeem Munir was sentenced to six years in prison in 2023, but the district court reduced the sentence to three years after the case was reopened at a court hearing on Monday afternoon.
The Stabbing on Dortheavej
The attack took place on 24 December 2022, when Raheem Mohammad Nadeem Munir was driving around in a Mercedes in the North-West district with three acquaintances in the car. At around 21:00, he pulled up alongside two young men on Dortheavej, whereupon the passengers got out and attacked the two with knife stabs.
When the district court decided the case in 2023, the then 19-year-old admitted that he had links to the banned gang Loyal to Familia (LTF), but denied knowing what was going to happen. The court convicted him of aggravated assault and assessed that the attack was part of a conflict between LTF and a group of young men from Nørrebro and North-West. This doubled the sentence to six years.
High Court Decision Changed the Premises
The decisive turning point came on 1 July 2025, when the Eastern High Court in a parallel case concerning a knife attack at Superbrugsen on Nørrebrogade in January 2023 refused to apply the gang provision.
"The high court stated that the other group was not a gang in the sense of the provision," explained prosecutor Andreas Christensen during Monday's court hearing.
The prosecution therefore no longer argued that the attack on Dortheavej fell under the gang provision.
"This has the logical consequence that Raheem should now have his sentence halved," said the prosecutor.
Defence counsel Thomas Brædder agreed with the assessment.
Residence Ban also Shortened
In addition to the sentence reduction, Frederiksberg District Court has also shortened the residence ban that prevents him from being in certain places. The ban was reduced from six to four years and runs from Monday's date.
Raheem Mohammad Nadeem Munir has accepted the new sentence and will not appeal to the high court.
He was released in the summer after having been held in pre-trial detention and served more than three years — more than the new sentence of three years. On this basis, he will now be able to apply for compensation.
Prosecution Under Pressure over Gang Provision
Monday's decision is not an isolated case. The prosecution has faced resistance in the court system in a number of cases when it comes to the use of the gang provision.
As a result, Justice Minister Nicolai Wammen (S) recently put forward a bill for consultation. The proposal is intended to make it easier for the prosecution to present evidence that a crime falls under the gang provision.
