According to remolacha.net, the National Police are intensifying their investigations to identify and locate two people recorded on security cameras who allegedly shot José Frank Valerio, aged 52, a recognised community leader and neighbourhood association official, who died on the spot.
The attack occurred on the afternoon of Friday 14 August whilst Valerio was sitting at a motorcycle taxi stop on the Hato Nuevo road, in the municipality of Los Alcarrizos, Santo Domingo Oeste. The attackers were travelling by motorcycle and fled the scene after the incident.
The preliminary report establishes that Valerio died as a result of multiple injuries caused by firearms projectiles. Five 9-millimetre shell casings were collected at the scene, evidence transferred to the Scientific Police for corresponding analysis.
Colonel Diego Pesqueira, spokesman for the National Police, stated that the investigation is in its initial stage and that it is premature to determine the motive for the crime. Pesqueira emphasised that Valerio's status as a community figure is a factor that investigators are seeking to examine precisely when reconstructing the circumstances of his death.
The investigations are coordinated by the Homicide Investigation Division of Santo Domingo Oeste under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The authorities are working with the surveillance video images, the evidence collected at the scene and statements from people who may provide relevant information to clarify the case.
