During operations carried out in the Progreso district, authorities discovered a buried body and confiscated police equipment allegedly used by the criminal organisation Los Fatales.

In the early hours of 14 July 2026, National Police officers conducted various operations in the Progreso sector, to the west of Guayaquil. During these procedures, uniformed officers located the remains of an individual buried on an uninhabited property.
The location of the body was revealed by one of the subjects apprehended during the operations, who provided precise details about the place. So far, authorities have not confirmed the identity of the deceased nor established the cause of death.
As part of these actions, police officers seized a communications radio that belonged to the law enforcement institution. It is presumed that this device was used by members of the criminal group called Los Fatales to maintain contact among their members.
Investigators also determined that one of the houses intervened served as a meeting place and storage centre for narcotics and firearms for the criminal organisation. The procedures were extended to other houses in the sector.
In parallel, in neighbourhoods such as Urdesa, La Alborada and Kennedy, authorities arrested three individuals linked to drug trafficking and theft. In their possession were drug doses and a mobile device that was allegedly stolen.
According to statements collected by Primicias, those arrested operated during peak traffic hours to intimidate and rob pedestrians of their belongings, especially in the surroundings of the Universidad Espíritu Santo, in addition to distributing controlled substances.
