Police opened an investigation on 16 June into a fraud case in which a 58-year-old woman residing in Lääne-Nigula municipality fell victim to a scam conducted via social media.
The woman wished to take out a loan through Facebook. For this purpose, she was asked to pay an alleged contract fee. After paying the fee, money was transferred from the woman's bank account to several other accounts. According to initial estimates, the woman's loss is approximately €830.
Police are investigating the incident and urge people to be cautious of loan offers on social media. In cases of suspicious offers, it is recommended to always verify the trustworthiness of the service provider.
