Accusation of sexual assault from moving vehicle
According to Libertad Digital, the Prosecution has requested 15 months' imprisonment for the co-driver of a Ssangyong Tivoli vehicle accused of striking a woman on the buttocks as she rode an electric scooter in Vigo. The incident occurred on 23 May 2025 at 22:00 hours in the city centre, when the car overtook the victim in the direction of Plaza de España.
According to the charge sheet, the co-driver extended his hand from the vehicle and made contact with "evident sexual intent" whilst driving alongside her. The woman, despite the impact, managed to maintain her balance on the scooter, noted the vehicle's registration plate and subsequently reported the incident to the police. The complaint was key to identifying the suspect.
The Public Prosecutor's Office classifies the conduct as a sexual assault offence. The measures requested include, in addition to the 15 months' imprisonment, a special disqualification of 3 years and 15 months prohibiting him from exercising any profession or trade involving direct contact with minors. Furthermore, the prosecution seeks compensation of €1,000 for the victim for moral damages and psychological harm.
During the preliminary hearing at Vigo courts, the accused rejected the Prosecution's plea bargain offer, which would have permitted a substantial reduction in sentence, and pleaded not guilty. The judge has closed the preparatory phase and issued an order opening the oral trial, fixing a date for the co-driver to formally defend himself before criminal court number 3 of the Court of First Instance of Vigo.
