Sexual abuse at Madrid school: nine minors and previous history

Mario F.G., a secondary school teacher at Colegio Mercedarias Don Juan de Alarcón, has been held in provisional detention without bail at Soto del Real since 16 October following his arrest for sexually assaulting nine pupils. According to elconfidencial.com, the teacher faces charges for three counts of aggravated sexual assault, three further counts of sexual assault, child prostitution, child pornography and "paedophile cyber-deception", arising from recordings of the assaults.

What complicates the case is that F.G. had already been detained in 2024 for a previous sexual assault against another minor at the same educational institution. On that occasion, he was released with precautionary measures pending trial. Despite having a police record, though not a criminal record, the teacher continued teaching after requesting voluntary leave following his first arrest.

The nine identified victims are aged between 12 and 15 years. All known assaults occurred within the school environment between 2019 and 2024. The investigation was initiated following comments made by pupils to their current teachers regarding the teacher's conduct, who was no longer working at the institution. The Family and Women's Assistance Unit (UFAM) of Madrid's Superior Police Headquarters took on the case and succeeded in identifying nine victims, from whom statements have already been taken.

The teacher maintained an excessively close relationship with some pupils, including conversations of an inappropriate tone. According to Telecinco, he added all the minors in his classes to his Instagram profile, giving him a contact channel outside the classroom. Police are considering that some assaults may have occurred both at school and elsewhere, taking advantage of these digital contacts.

During a search of his home, officers seized a large quantity of incriminating material: mobile phones, notepads and a games console awaiting forensic analysis. The court has opened a separate case file classified as secret for the extraction and analysis of data stored on digital devices.

Alongside his teaching activity, F.G. was listed as a goalkeeper coach in Atlético de Madrid's youth categories, with links to the red and white academy between 2009 and 2017 according to various reports, although the club has made no public statements to date.

Colegio Mercedarias Don Juan de Alarcón has emphasised its immediate cooperation with the National Police upon learning of testimonies regarding irregular conduct. The school stated that it made contact with UFAM "as soon as it became aware" of the facts and maintains "close cooperation" for full clarification. It has established listening channels and personalised assistance, offering psycho-pedagogical support and guidance to affected pupils and families.

The Madrid High Court of Justice (TSJM) confirmed that the judge in charge of the Section on Violence against Children and Adolescents agreed to the teacher's provisional detention, communicated and without bail. The proceedings are in an initial phase and the criminal charges attributed could vary as investigation procedures progress. The judge will offer the corresponding legal courses of action to the allegedly affected families.
