Espoo driver flees police checkpoint with U-turn – child in vehicle
Western Uusimaa police conducted a surveillance operation on Espoonties when one driver decided to immediately turn back upon noticing the presence of officials.
The man drove his vehicle around and continued on his way. At the following intersections, he did not heed the red traffic lights but drove straight through.
The patrol began following the car that was moving suspiciously and managed to stop it. A test revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. There was also a minor passenger in the car.
The man is suspected of drink-driving and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety.
According to police, every vehicle driver must assess their own driving condition before setting out. Even if blood alcohol content did not exceed the criminal threshold, authorities have the right to stop driving if the driver's ability to control the vehicle is impaired.
