Police investigate violence at secondary-school American football camp
Police in Häme are investigating violence that took place at a secondary-school camp held in Pajulahti, in which at least three American football players beat a fellow camper with a belt. According to Google News FI — Crime (fi), police filed a report on the incident in February. Police have not at this stage commented on what charges the case is being investigated under.
In a decision published by the Sports Ombudsman Board, it is stated that a group of boys entered the victim's room, knocked him onto his bed on his stomach, and hit him three times with a belt on his bottom. The victim had also been threatened with violence before the beating and again the following day. The reported motive was the victim's lateness to training.
The case came to light when one of the players involved in the incident complained to the Sports Ombudsman Board about a sports ban he had received. A 16-year-old boy admitted his involvement in the beating. The ban ended on 30 April.
The four-day camp was attended by ambitious secondary-school-age American football players from various parts of Finland.
