A homicide that occurred at the fast-food restaurant in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki, resulted in a life sentence. The perpetrator was identified as 29-year-old Dimitri Allan Lindberg, who stabbed his former partner 13 times in the thigh and arms in April 2024. The victim was carrying an approximately three-week-old baby, whose father is the perpetrator.
Initially, the case was investigated as manslaughter. However, Iltalehti crime journalist Eevi Karvinen discovered that the charge against the suspect had been changed to murder. Following this, Karvinen began investigating the perpetrator's history and uncovered an alarming picture of the man.
Lindberg had previously been convicted of assaulting a former girlfriend. He had punched her in the face. The man had also been issued a restraining order to protect another former partner, and he was accused of breaching this order.
During the trial, the perpetrator admitted to aggravated assault and aggravated involuntary manslaughter. He explained his actions as a primitive retaliatory response linked to his fear of losing custody of the child. The district court rejected this explanation and sentenced him to life imprisonment for murder.
The Helsinki Court of Appeal upheld the sentence. In spring 2026, the Supreme Court refused to grant leave to appeal, whereupon the decision became final.
