A violent incident occurred in Helsinki's Vallila district on Friday in which a man sustained a serious head injury. A bladed weapon was used in the attack.
Crime Commissioner Jari Korkalainen, who is leading the investigation, told Yle in an interview that the severity of the injuries and the type of weapon form the basis for suspicion of attempted murder. However, he did not reveal what kind of bladed weapon was involved.
The emergency centre relayed a report to police after midday. The injured person was taken to hospital.
Two individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted homicide. They are not the same person as the victim. Korkalainen did not comment on whether both detainees used the weapon.
Authorities are investigating whether the parties were previously acquainted with one another. On Friday afternoon, police had not yet had time to interview the parties involved. As the investigation progresses, charges may be refined.
