Fesih Basinc, 43, who assisted in murder, appears before appeals court in Espoo – previously fled to Germany
A man who assisted in the murder of a pregnant family mother from Espoo was brought before the appeals court. Basinc fled Finland despite a travel ban, but was extradited from Germany in September.

Accomplice who fled to Germany brought before appeals court in Espoo
Fesih Basinc, 43, sat in the defendant's dock at the appeals court on Thursday charged with assisting in murder and firearm offences. According to Ilta-Sanomat, the man attempted to cover his face from photographers at the beginning of the court session but failed, unlike in the District Court hearing in April, when he hid under his jacket.
Basinc did not arrive at court by the most direct route. The man fled Finland by car in May during District Court proceedings – despite a travel ban. He drove through Sweden to Germany and disappeared from the authorities' view for months.
The District Court convicted Basinc in absentia to three years in prison and ordered him remanded into custody immediately. In July, German authorities arrested the man, and in September he was extradited to Finland for trial.
At the appeals court, Basinc is demanding that the charges against him be dismissed and the District Court judgment quashed. The prosecutor is demanding that the sentence be increased.
Pistol and car as instruments of murder
According to the District Court, Basinc provided Engin Gezer, 45, convicted of murder, with two things essential to the act: a pistol and a car. Gezer drove the car to Espoo Suurpelto on Friday 29 August 2025 and shot his ex-wife in front of their two children. The woman was pregnant with her new partner's child at the time of her death.
The murder was rooted in a contentious divorce. Gezer did not accept his ex-wife's new relationship and felt it had brought shame upon him and his family's honour.
Gezer has been convicted of murder and firearm offences and sentenced to life imprisonment. He too is appealing his conviction at the appeals court – claiming that the act fulfilled only the elements of manslaughter and not murder. In addition, he is demanding a psychiatric assessment.
Hearing to continue in October
A total of ten days have been allocated for proceedings in the appeals court. The next hearing is on 20 October, when Gezer will be brought before the court.
