The West Uusimaa District Court decided on Friday that a woman accused of dozens of counts of fraud will undergo a mental health examination. The case will continue only after the examination is completed.
According to the prosecutor's allegations, the woman succeeded in 2025 in obtaining a substantial sum of money from victims using a fabricated story about a serious illness. She claimed she needed immediate funds for treatment and promised to repay the loans once an insurance company reimbursed her expenses. In reality, the woman did not have cancer and had not even applied for insurance compensation from any company.
According to information provided earlier by the police, the total criminal damage amounts to approximately €800,000. The matter involves approximately 50 separate criminal reports. The interim ruling mentions over 50 complainants, most of whom are private individuals, but there are also businesses among them. Several victims were the perpetrator's own relatives and acquaintances.
The frauds were mainly committed between spring and autumn 2025.
The accused has largely admitted that she received funds and caused financial damage. She also admitted to misleading her victims.
The woman herself requested the court to order a mental health examination in her written response.
