Suspected arson at Riihimäki Puuilo on Midsummer's Eve

On the evening of 19 June, shortly before 7 o'clock, a fire broke out near the loading area of the Puuilo department store in Riihimäki. The fire service received an alert about flames in rubbish at the rear of the shop.

The fire spread to a waste compactor beneath the loading area and its surroundings. The blaze raging against the wall endangered the entire shop building, but firefighters brought the flames under control before the damage could expand.

Häme police are treating the incident as intentional destruction. However, the criminal charge may be updated as the preliminary investigation progresses.

Authorities are seeking observations from two young people who were seen at the location before the fire started. Police are investigating whether they are connected to the case.
