Fire deliberately set in Riihimäki – police seek two boys
A fire broke out on Merkoksenkatu in Riihimäki on Midsummer's Eve, and according to Hämeen police, the cause was apparently deliberate. An alert about burning material was received on Friday, 19 June, shortly after seven in the evening.
The target was rubbish located beneath a loading platform of a shop. Flames spread from there to a nearby waste compactor and its surroundings before rescue services brought them under control. Total damage has yet to be determined.
A criminal report has been filed for attempted criminal damage. Following the preliminary investigation, the offence classification may change.
Authorities are seeking information about two minors who were seen in the area between 8 pm and 9 pm. One is fair-haired and was wearing a blue shirt, grey trousers with a black side stripe, white shoes and a black rucksack. The other is dark-haired and was wearing a green t-shirt, black shorts and black or green shoes. This person was reportedly seen on a light pink women's bicycle.
