Racism admitted after Trappes incident

According to lindependant.fr, the national counter-terrorism prosecutor sought the remand in custody of Kévin T., aged 39, suspect in the attack carried out on 23 October in Trappes and La Verrière, on Thursday 29 October 2026. The attack resulted in one death and seven wounded, four of them seriously.

During six hearings, the suspect initially denied any terrorist motive. Progressively, he admitted the racially motivated nature of his act. The national counter-terrorism prosecutor, Olivier Christen, reported his words: he had "specifically targeted people of Muslim or African, North African appearance" and chosen the location because "Trappes is a nest of Islamists".

The deceased victim is Pengo Bossio Wangi, aged 26, an MMA champion, shot dead in a square. The suspect claims to feel "no regret" according to the magistrate. Media outlets had mentioned frequentation of pro-Palestinian circles; Kévin T. declared to investigators that he had "infiltrated the leftists".

Investigators discovered in his vehicle a Bible, a Quran and a copy of Mein Kampf, as well as around thirty stickers bearing "Long live France, RN, proud to be French". The suspect claims to have designed and ordered them online. No political party leaflets were found.

One hundred and eleven victims or witnesses have been heard so far. More than 200 people participated in the investigation, including 52 investigators from the DGSI. The suspect was transferred to the Paris judicial tribunal to be presented to a counter-terrorism investigating judge for committal proceedings. The investigation concerns acts classified as murder and attempted murders in connection with a terrorist enterprise, with the aggravating circumstance of racism.
