Mother of Ramatou speaks after Yvelines attack

According to BFM TV, the mother of Ramatou, 11, spoke on Wednesday 28 October at a citizens' march organised on rue Marcel-Rivière in La Verrière, six days after the attack. The child was seriously wounded during the racist attack carried out on Friday 23 October in Trappes and La Verrière.

Ramatou was returning from the swimming pool when Kévin T., 39, opened fire on several people. She was struck by eight bullets before being urgently hospitalised at Necker Hospital in Paris. "The little girl travelled all that distance to save herself," her mother said, pointing to the place where her daughter had taken shelter behind a car. "She ran to take shelter behind a car, that's what saved her. Otherwise, she could have died," she added.

The child's condition is no longer life-threatening, although her mother indicated that "the road will be very long". In front of the cameras, a white rose in her hand, she bore witness to her daughter's resilience: "Ramatou is very brave, she fights every day. She told me: 'Mum, I fought for you and Dad'". The mother also expressed her outrage: "The little girl, she did nothing to deserve this!"

The racist attack on 23 October claimed the life of Pengo Bossio Wangi and left five wounded. A fundraiser opened by Ramatou's half-sister exceeded €108,000. The main suspect, Kévin T., was transferred Thursday morning to the Paris judicial court at the end of his police custody to be presented to an investigating judge specialising in counter-terrorism with a view to possible formal charges.
