Chilly-Mazarin: ex-boyfriend convicted of 20 years for Mayliss's murder

Trial held in camera after two years of investigation

According to lenouveaudetective.com, the accused has been appearing since Tuesday before the juvenile assize court of Évry-Courcouronnes for the murder of Mayliss, 18, which occurred on 14 February 2024 in Vitry-sur-Seine. Dressed in black and watched by the victim's family, he admitted to stabbing his ex-girlfriend before burning her body. The trial is being held in camera due to his status as a minor at the time of the crime.

Circumstances of the tragedy

Mayliss disappeared on Valentine's Day after posting a final photograph on Snapchat, seated in the back of a car driven by a boy. Eight days later, her body was discovered in a thicket in Chilly-Mazarin, near the A6 motorway. The autopsy revealed sixteen wounds consistent with knife strikes to the head, neck and arms.

A motive remaining unclear

Initially prosecuted for murder with premeditation, the ex-boyfriend ultimately had this charge reclassified as murder, with premeditation being ruled out. He also faces charges of tampering with the crime scene and violation of the integrity of the corpse. Rape allegations were abandoned: the DNA found on the victim's clothing came from blood and not from semen. Four other people—the accused's girlfriend at the time, his two brothers and a friend—benefited from a non-suit due to insufficient evidence. The court must rule on the reasons that prompted the young man to commit this act when delivering its verdict.
