Two police officers accused of rape at Bobigny detention facility released under surveillance

Two police officers charged with aggravated rape of a woman held at Bobigny court have been released under electronic surveillance, confirming an investigating judge's ruling despite the prosecution's appeal.

Release confirmed

The two police officers accused of aggravated rape have been released under electronic surveillance, according to leparisien.fr. The investigating judge ordered their release on 13 October 2026, a decision that the court of instruction confirmed on Thursday during a hearing, despite the opposition of the public prosecutor.

The alleged victim, aged 26, was held at the detention facility at Bobigny courthouse in October 2025 for "breach of parental legal obligations". She alleges two rapes took place during the night of 28 to 29 October 2025, while she was awaiting presentation to the judiciary.

The two police officers were placed in detention on 1 November 2025 and charged with rape and sexual assault through abuse of authority. They acknowledge the sexual relations but characterise them as consensual.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau had questioned the validity of this consent, arguing that the woman was "already deprived of her freedom of movement" and subject to a "situation of physical constraint". Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described these actions as "extraordinarily serious and unacceptable" if confirmed.

The prosecution appealed against the release and against the investigating judge's refusal to request an extension of provisional detention. The court of appeal confirmed the release on Thursday, ending these proceedings. Investigations remain ongoing.

The detention facility, located in the basement of Bobigny courthouse, accommodates dozens of people each day awaiting trial or judicial presentation.
