According to TF1 Info, police were called during the night of 24 to 25 October at around 3am to an apartment on Rue Ginette-Watelle in Dijon. A 21-year-old young woman was discovered in cardiac and respiratory arrest. Despite intervention by emergency services and resuscitation attempts, she was pronounced dead at 3:52am, according to the prosecutor of the Republic in Dijon, Arnaud Viornery.
Her mother, a woman in her sixties, was also present at the scene. Seriously injured to the head and upper limbs, she was transported to Dijon general hospital with a life-threatening prognosis.
A pull-up bar bearing traces of blood was found in the apartment. Investigators concluded that both victims were struck with this metal object. The suspected perpetrator left the scene before the arrival of law enforcement.
Suspicion quickly fell on the deceased young woman's brother, aged 24 and son of the injured woman in her sixties. The suspect "is currently subject to active investigations", announced Arnaud Viornery. An expedited enquiry for murder and attempted murder of an ascendant has been opened by the Dijon prosecutor's office and entrusted to the local judicial police.
Investigations are continuing to determine the precise circumstances of the tragedy, any possible family history and the motives of the suspected perpetrator. An autopsy of the victim is to be carried out shortly.
