The French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa was targeted by a cyber-attack that enabled "fraudulent transactions", according to an announcement by the bank itself. Management stated that the incident "is now under control" and assured that there would be no financial consequences for customers.

As reported by Naftemporiki, the newspaper Le Télégramme estimates the total damage at 133 million dollars, that is approximately 118 million euros. The institution holds assets worth approximately 235 billion dollars.

The disclosure of the incident was made by "ZachXBT", an American researcher who operates under a pseudonym in the fields of cryptocurrency security and anti-money laundering, with internationally recognised work. Two days ago the researcher reported that a "European Union entity is suspected" of having lost "106 million dollars".

On Tuesday, ZachXBT clarified that he had "identified additional withdrawals exceeding 27 million dollars", whilst also revealing the identity of the bank. He also noted that the attack lasted several days and that the actual losses may be greater, if possible off-exchange activity is taken into account.

Regarding the identity of the attacker, ZachXBT stated that he has "high degree of certainty" that it is not a member of the Lazarus group from North Korea.
