Triple drug-related murder near Marseille: confessions and tears before the assizes court

According to ouest-france.fr, the hearing on Monday 2 November 2026 before the Aix-en-Provence assizes court took on a particularly emotionally charged turn. Ouassila Benhmadi-Kessaci, mother of two murdered sons, cried out her pain to the judges: "I have two dead: Mehdi, Brahim!"

The trial, now in its second week, concerns the murder of one of the Kessaci family's sons in 2020 — killed in an ambush on the outskirts of Marseille alongside two other men involved in drug trafficking. The shadow of the younger Amine Kessaci, himself murdered a few years later, hangs over the proceedings.

Three mothers testified at this hearing, evoking, according to the Agence France-Presse (AFP), "a life that no longer has meaning". When Ouassila Benhmadi-Kessaci learned of her son Brahim's death, she initially did not understand the term "barbecue" used in the press. It was the police who explained its meaning to her.

Faced with these testimonies, an accused man took the floor to name those responsible for the triple homicide, pointing out the respective roles of Amine Oualane and Karim Harrat. Another defendant, for his part, acknowledged his involvement in the facts, thus breaking the code of silence that had prevailed until then in this emblematic case of violence linked to drug-related murders in the Marseille region.
