Arrest of prison officer suspected of corruption

A prison officer at the Eysses detention centre in Villeneuve-sur-Lot (Lot-et-Garonne) was placed in custody on Tuesday 22 September, according to ladepeche.fr. He is suspected of passive corruption, drug trafficking and the introduction of prohibited items into the detention facility. The arrest came at the conclusion of a judicial inquiry launched at the end of 2025 following a report from the establishment's management.

The inquiry was entrusted to the organised and specialised crime division (DCOS) of Lot-et-Garonne, under the direction of the Agen prosecutor's office. Investigators initially identified a prepaid phone line that maintained regular contact with the prison officer. Analysis of these communications revealed explicit exchanges concerning the introduction of items into the prison in exchange for payment.

Several statements from detainees confirmed the introduction of mobile phones, alcohol and drugs by a member of staff. These declarations strengthened investigators' suspicions regarding the prison officer's activities.

During a search of his home on 22 September, investigators discovered several hundred grammes of cannabis resin, several dozen grammes of cannabis plant material, approximately ten thousand euros in cash and packaged mobile phones. The officer initially denied the allegations during his questioning before admitting to them.

The prison administration informed the team at Eysses centre of the prison officer's placement in custody during the course of 22 September. The investigation remains ongoing.
