A man fired shots from a moving car at pedestrians in two communes in the Greater Paris area. According to a statement from French national police, there is at least one dead person and four injured, including one person with serious injuries. The shooter has been arrested, reported Kleine Zeitung.

The incident occurred in the Yvelines department, west of Paris. Shots were first fired in the commune of Trappes before the man drove on to the neighbouring locality of La Verrière.

Ali Rabeh, mayor of Trappes, told broadcaster BFMTV that the perpetrator had "fired randomly and aimed to carry out a massacre". Among the injured is also a twelve-year-old girl. The shooter is said to live in a nearby town.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu wrote on the platform X that the Paris terrorism prosecutor's office had announced that it would monitor the situation. Security and judicial authorities were fully deployed. Lecornu described the events as "very serious incidents". No information on the background to the act was initially available.
