Suspect disputes the racist classification in the Yvelines case
Kevin T., arrested on Friday in Coignières in the Yvelines, is suspected of having committed an attack that caused one death and four serious injuries. According to BFM TV, the counter-terrorism prosecutor of the Republic, Olivier Christen, stated at a press conference on Monday, 26 October, that the suspect "disputes the racist nature of his crimes".
Arrested in the days following the incident, Kevin T. was placed in police custody. The latter has resumed, the prosecutor specified, indicating that investigations are continuing to establish the motive and the exact nature of the attack. The authorities are examining the classification of the act, which may involve a terrorist dimension due to the toll and the circumstances of the attack.
The four persons injured during the incident received medical care. The case remains in the hands of the counter-terrorism prosecution, which will determine whether proceedings will be brought under the terrorist classification or otherwise. The investigation aims to clarify the suspect's motives and the absence or presence of elements characterising a discriminatory dimension at the origin of the attack.
The Yvelines region had been the scene of significant security mobilisation following this incident. The gendarmerie and police services have not communicated further details about the suspect's profile or ongoing parallel investigations.
