Dion-Olympus: Police investigation exposes network legalising illegal buildings
Police have opened an investigation against 60 people on charges of fraud, false declarations and illegal construction in the Dion-Olympus municipality, according to ot.gr. The violations were detected in various areas of the municipality and span a period of at least five years.
The lengthy police investigation revealed that 13 people, invoking their professional status, submitted a total of 26 false declarations for the regularisation of illegal constructions. Specifically, they falsely stated that the properties in question pre-dated 28 July 2011 — the landmark date for the legalisation of illegal buildings.
In these declarations, they were assisted by 30 property owners, who signed false sworn statements regarding the date of construction of their properties. Additionally, 4 other people managed to pass off illegally constructed buildings as legal, also through false declarations about the construction date.
The investigation file also includes 10 property owners who carried out illegal construction without the required building permit, as well as 3 contractors and builders involved in the construction of 8 of the illegal structures.
The case file will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Katerini.
