Tax authority investigates possible involvement of staff in Pizza Fan tax evasion case

Tax authority requests information from police on staff involvement in Pizza Fan case

The Internal Affairs Division of the tax authority sent a formal written request today, Monday, to the relevant police divisions, on the orders of tax authority chief Yiorgos Pitsilis, asking to be informed whether the police investigation or information held by the police reveals possible involvement of specific members of staff, according to Dikastiko.gr.

The request concerns allegations of alleged warning given to Pizza Fan's inspectees regarding an imminent tax inspection at the food service business, which is accused of tax evasion.

Authority freezes assets in money laundering cases

Earlier that same day, the Money Laundering Authority, under its chairman, retired prosecutor of the Court of Cassation Charalampos Vourliotis, proceeded to freeze all assets of the accused in two tax fraud cases: Pizza Fan and the Choriatiko bakery chain.

The freezing order applies to all those appearing to be involved in the two cases and covers bank accounts, safe deposit boxes and any other assets they hold.

Exemption of employee wages from freezing orders

The Authority took steps to ensure that the freezing measures would not affect the payroll of staff. The accounts used for paying wages are explicitly exempted from the freezing order, in order to safeguard employees' salaries.

This provision also applies to employees at the Choriatiko chain. The Authority seeks to prevent the possibility of employees bearing the consequences of cases for which they themselves bear no responsibility.
