A 17-year-old teenager was found dead during a violent altercation that took place late on Wednesday evening in Kallithea square, on Megaloupoleos Street.

According to information released by the Hellenic Police, a group of three young men clashed with another group of six people, among whom was the victim. Tensions escalated when the first group called their friends, who arrived at the scene by car.

Among those who arrived was an 18-year-old, who fatally wounded the 17-year-old with a knife to the chest during the brawl. The victim collapsed to the ground and, despite the efforts of residents and rescue workers, it was not possible to save his life.

An ambulance that arrived at the scene transported the injured person to Hippocrates Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

Police forces carried out 14 detentions and, following indications from those involved, identified the perpetrator. The 18-year-old confessed to his actions and was arrested.

Although initially suspicions were raised about football fan-related motives, as almost all participants except one are said to support the same team, the exact cause of the altercation remains under investigation. Testimonies being examined by the Hellenic Police also raise the possibility of personal disputes or differences related to narcotics.

The victim had not been formally identified up to this point and no one had reported the young man missing.
