A concerning incident unfolded yesterday evening at a major healthcare facility in Athens, when an elderly person entered the premises carrying a sharp object. The episode occurred at approximately 22:15.

The man in question, aged ninety, traversed the corridors of the institution unhindered and ascended to the first floor, where the cardiology wing is located. His purpose, according to what he claimed, was to see well-known actress Maro Kontou, who was being treated there. The elderly man presented different stories to various members of staff, at times claiming he was a relative and at other times claiming he belonged to the artistic world.

A glass with sweets was found in his possession, whilst during a body search it was revealed that he was concealing a knife. His presence did not go unnoticed. A member of staff working in the wing ascertained that something was not right with his behaviour and immediately informed those responsible for security. The latter conducted a search, located the weapon and immobilised the perpetrator before he managed to enter the patient's room.

Shortly afterwards, the ninety-year-old was taken to the custody cells of the local police station. The police officers handling the case are investigating the reasons that led the arrested man to take this action. According to information from ERTNews reporting, the possibility is being examined that the man suffers from a psychiatric condition.

A representative of the hospital's employees, speaking to a television network, stressed that the timely response of the nurse and security prevented the worst. The elderly man remained in custody at the time of writing this article.
