Chainsaw incident in Drymo, Thessaloniki: 42-year-old arrested
Tension arose on Sunday evening in a neighbourhood of Drymo when residents spotted a person holding a chainsaw near a house where a family was present. Those present immediately called the police.
Officers from the Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit of the Thessaloniki Directorate of Prosecution and Crime Investigation arrived at the scene quickly. Authorities immobilised and brought in a 42-year-old man, who according to information is originally from Albania.
The investigation revealed that the arrested man had personal differences with a 49-year-old resident of the area. He reportedly made his way to his rival's residence in the Oraiokastro area, where that man's wife was inside at the time. There he began hurling insults, whilst carrying an electric chainsaw — which he had not activated.
During the subsequent investigation, officers found a knife on him. It also emerged that the man did not have the required documents justifying his lawful residence in Greece.
The 42-year-old was taken to Oraiokastro Police Station, where a case file was opened against him for threats as well as for violation of weapons legislation and legislation concerning foreigners. He is expected to be brought before the Public Prosecutor.
