A 31-year-old man who entered Mandra police station on Friday and attacked police officers with a knife remains intubated in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the Newspaper of Editors.

The incident occurred at 15:50, when the man entered the station in a state of amok, wielding a knife and threatening staff. The duty officer and the station guard called on him to put down the weapon, without result.

The assailant attacked them, resulting in smashed glass and a police officer sustaining minor injuries. The officers immobilised him by shooting him in the chest. He was transported by EKAB ambulance to Thriassio Hospital, where he underwent surgery and came out of the operating theatre late that evening, according to ERT.

Due to the seriousness of his condition, he remained intubated in the ICU. According to information, the 31-year-old has psychological problems and has previously been treated at a psychiatric institution.

An investigation is being conducted to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.
