A 17-year-old teenager lost his life during a violent clash that took place late on the evening of Wednesday, 24 June, on Megaloupolis Street in Kallithea.
According to information that emerged, shortly before midnight, a group of 14 people aged 17 to 18 years old became involved in a fierce incident amongst themselves. During the clash, the 17-year-old was attacked with a blade to the chest, resulting in fatal injuries.
An ambulance from the National Emergency Care Service (EKAS) transported the child to Hippocrates Hospital, where despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries.
Immediately after the incident, strong police forces rushed to the scene and proceeded to arrest 13 young people who had involvement in the incident. The details of the victim had not been made public at that time, and no one had reported the minor missing.
Police officers from the Organised Crime Confrontation Directorate took over the preliminary investigation, identified the alleged perpetrator of the attack, and arrested him. Information indicates that he is a Greek national.
The knife used in the crime was located by authorities and sent to forensic laboratories for examination.
Initially, the possibility of supporter-related motives was examined; however, it subsequently emerged that all those involved, with the exception of one, were supporters of the same team. The motives behind the clash remain unclear.
