Corfu: Arrest of 51-year-old man on suspicion of raping his 8-year-old granddaughter
Authorities in Corfu have arrested a 51-year-old foreign national accused of raping his 8-year-old granddaughter. The investigating magistrate granted him a deadline to submit his defence statement by Monday.

A serious case of child sexual abuse is under investigation in Corfu, according to In.gr. Police officers arrested a 51-year-old foreign national of Albanian origin, accused of raping his 8-year-old granddaughter.
The investigation began following a visit by the 8-year-old and her mother to a doctor, who detected signs of abuse and immediately informed the mother. Subsequently, the 8-year-old herself disclosed to her mother what she had suffered at the hands of her grandfather, according to Corfutvnews.
The mother filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office, and the prosecuting authorities ordered the immediate arrest of the 51-year-old. The accused was brought before the investigating magistrate, where he requested and was granted a deadline to submit his defence statement on Monday.
The charges he faces are extremely serious: rape, violation of sexual dignity, child sexual abuse and incest. The 51-year-old denies all charges against him.
Both parents of the 8-year-old filed criminal complaints. The preliminary investigation continues, with the aim of fully documenting the circumstances and timeline of the case.
