Fire at Galatsi Grove: three minors arrested for arson with firecrackers
Three minors were arrested in flagrante delicto for a fire in Galatsi, allegedly having thrown firecrackers. Their parents were also arrested for neglect of supervision.
Firecrackers sparked fire at Galatsi Grove – six arrests
Three minors were arrested in flagrante delicto for a fire that broke out on Friday afternoon in an open area on the border of Psychiko, near Veïko Grove and the Galatsi area, according to Dikastiko.gr. The three young people are alleged to have thrown firecrackers into dry vegetation, causing ignition.
The preliminary investigation was undertaken by the Fire Service's Arson Crime Response Division (D.A.E.E.). A team from the service conducted an inspection at the scene, collected evidence and took statements to determine the causes and conditions of the fire's outbreak.
Evidence implicating the minors
The investigation yielded evidence that, according to authorities, links the three minors to the outbreak of the fire. In accordance with the same information, the young people threw firecrackers in an open area, resulting in the dry vegetation catching fire and the fire breaking out.
The arrests were made under the flagrante delicto procedure. The parents of the minors are also implicated in the same case, and were arrested on charges of neglect of supervision of minors.
Admission of involvement and expression of remorse
During questioning by the competent authorities, the three minors allegedly admitted their involvement in the incident and described their actions prior to the fire's outbreak. According to information from the preliminary investigation, they also expressed remorse for the events and their consequences.
Next steps
The detained persons—minors and parents—are expected to be brought before the competent prosecutor authorities, together with all the material gathered during the investigation, in order for the legal procedures to be followed.
