Police in Rethymno arrested a 33-year-old man who defrauded an elderly woman, obtaining pounds sterling worth approximately 40,000 euros.

Officers from the Crime Investigation and Detection Subdivision of Rethymno proceeded to arrest a 33-year-old man, who is alleged to have defrauded an elderly woman in the area.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator, together with accomplices, impersonated police officers and approached the elderly woman. Using various pretexts, they persuaded her to hand over pounds sterling worth approximately 40,000 euros, promising to safeguard them on her behalf.
Police officers managed to connect the details of the case and identify the 33-year-old. During his arrest, he indicated to the authorities the location where he had hidden the jewellery.
The investigation revealed that the same man had committed other frauds in the past, targeting the extraction of money and valuables from unsuspecting citizens.
