Dramatic arrest of 53-year-old in Ptolemaida — two police officers injured

A 53-year-old foreign national was arrested on Monday afternoon in Ptolemaida after attacking police officers with punches and kicks during his arrest, slightly injuring two of them. According to Dikastiko.gr, he had a pending conviction for theft offences.

The 53-year-old was located by police in the area. During the check, he attempted to evade arrest and physically resisted, attacking the police officers. Despite the resistance, police managed to immobilise him.

The investigation that followed revealed that the 53-year-old was identified as the perpetrator of three attempted burglaries from the home of an 85-year-old woman in the wider Ptolemaida area. The attempted burglaries are alleged to have been committed between October 2025 and August 2026.

At the same time, it was established that the arrested individual had illegally entered and remained in Greece without the required identity and travel documents.

A file was opened against him for the offences of violence against public officials and judicial officers, violation of legislation concerning foreign nationals, and attempted burglary as a continuing offence. The arrested individual was taken before the Deputy Prosecutor of the Kozani District Court. The preliminary investigation was conducted by the Crimes Investigation and Solution Department of Eordaia.
